The Roofing Company

Western Pennsylvania

The Roofing Company provides residential and commercial roofing across Western Pennsylvania, including roof replacement, roof repair, flat roofing systems, and gutter work. Based in North Huntingdon, we cover the Pittsburgh region and the communities spread through Allegheny and Westmoreland counties. Our crews work on everything from a single storm-damaged slope to a full commercial re-cover.

Why Western Pennsylvania Roofs Wear Out Faster

This corner of the state runs a true four-season climate, and roofs pay for it. Winter here is not one long freeze but a repeating cycle: thaw during the day, refreeze overnight, water working its way into every seam and nail hole and expanding as it turns to ice.

That freeze-thaw rhythm is what opens fastener holes, lifts flashing, and splits aging shingles along their seal strips. Summer brings the opposite problem, with thunderstorm lines that carry hail and straight-line wind. If you want to see how active a given season has been, the National Weather Service forecast office in Pittsburgh keeps forecast and storm records for the whole coverage area.

Snow, Ice Dams, and Drainage

Ice dams are a regional signature. Heat escaping through an underinsulated attic melts snow at the ridge, that meltwater runs down and refreezes at the cold eave, and the resulting ridge of ice backs water up under the shingles. The leak shows up on a bedroom ceiling in February and the homeowner assumes it is a shingle problem.

Often it is not. We look at ventilation, insulation depth, ice-and-water membrane coverage at the eaves, and whether the gutters are actually moving water away from the structure. Fixing the roof surface without fixing the cause just buys you one more winter.

Older Housing Stock and Hilly Ground

Much of the housing across the greater Pittsburgh region predates modern roofing practice. We regularly open up homes with two or three layers of old shingles, board decking with wide gaps, and flashing details that were never right to begin with. Newer subdivisions have their own quirks, usually complex rooflines with more valleys and penetrations than a simple gable ever had.

The terrain adds another layer. Hillside lots mean steep driveways, tight access, and roof planes that catch wind from directions a flat-lot house never sees. Setting up safely on that kind of site is part of the estimate, not an afterthought.

What We Handle

On the residential side, that means tear-off and roof replacement, targeted repair, valley and chimney flashing, ventilation correction, and seamless gutters with proper downspout routing. On the commercial side, we work on low-slope and flat assemblies where ponding, seam failure, and neglected drains cause most of the damage.

Every job starts with an honest look at what the roof actually needs. Sometimes that is a full replacement. Sometimes it is a few hundred dollars of flashing work that buys another six or eight years. A roofing contractor who tells you the truth about that difference is worth keeping, and that is the standard we hold ourselves to on every property we inspect across Western Pennsylvania.
