Exterior siding performs a pair of jobs at once, and merely one of them is obvious. It sets what your home presents from the street — and it acts as the first line that stops weather from reaching the structure underneath it. If the exterior fails, the harm almost never stays limited to the surface.

The Roofing Company takes on exterior work for residents throughout Allegheny County Pennsylvania. We've specifically focused this part of our exterior business on James Hardie fiber-cement systems, because of how those products hold up in weather like Pennsylvania’s.

The Reason We Focus On Fiber Cement Siding

The material performs in another way from standard vinyl and from timber in precisely the respects that count here:

  • The material does not warp or soften under summer heat the way certain vinyl materials will.
  • Freezing and thawing cycling is specifically the stress which wears down a lot of exterior materials in Pennsylvania, and the material is built to handle it.
  • Insects don't eat it, and it will not rot the way natural wood lap siding will.
  • It holds color far longer than many alternatives, which reduces what you put in on it down the road.
  • Combustion resistance — it is not combustible, which counts a good deal more to certain owners than others.

None of this holds up a poor installation, of course. Fiber cement has defined handling requirements — spacing, fastening, flashing details, and joint treatment — and handling them wrong negates the entire reason you selected it in the first place. That will also compromise the factory warranty.

Siding Jobs We Take On

  • Complete siding tear-off – taking off the current siding, checking the structure is behind it, and putting up a new siding to specification.
  • Partial repair work – where damage is limited and a complete tear-off is not warranted.
  • New siding and trim work.
  • New siding combined with roof work – doing the two at once often proves more economical on a schedule and around a cost.

The Places Siding Installations Fail

Like roof work, the failures are almost always located at the transitions rather than in the open areas:

  • Weather flashing at window openings and doors. Rain which works past an opening and has nowhere to drain will stay inside the assembly.
  • The weather-resistive barrier beneath the panels. Siding is not an impermeable layer; whatever sits behind it performs much of the actual protection.
  • Clearances. Hardie board carries defined gaps at the ground, at roof intersections, and at projecting elements. Tightening those up seems cleaner and produces problems later.
  • Nailing plus butt-joint treatment. These are prescribed by the factory for a reason.

The Things That Determine Siding Price

The material prices more vinyl siding both for the product and as the install — it is substantially heavier, gets cut differently, and has handling standards which take real time to meet. The variables past that choice:

  • Taking off the old siding, and what sits behind it. Wall sheathing deterioration and a failed water-resistive plane are routine findings and aren't knowable in advance.
  • Trim scope. Corners, window and door surrounds, frieze board and belly band boards. Trim represents where an exterior project will either looks properly resolved else reads unfinished, and trim remains labor.
  • The wall complexity. Dormers and gables, eave returns, bays, and every further opening.
  • Rainscreen or insulation or furring assemblies. Substantial performance upgrades possible at the point at which the siding is off, and available at scarcely any other point.

Our 10-Year Labor Guarantee

With James Hardie, the installation is not a side matter from the material — it governs whether the factory warranty applies at all. That is why eligible siding jobs by The Roofing Company come with a ten-year Workmanship Guarantee. Should an eligible issue trace back to our detailing inside those ten years, we fix it — the homeowner pays nothing.

The product warranty on the boards themselves runs in addition to that, according to the factory requirements. Because James Hardie warranty does turn on correct detailing, the two are rather more linked than they are with other sidings.

Choosing The Roofing Company

We're a family-run company, three generations in construction. That informs how we price jobs: a specific proposal that says what will be done, photographs of what we encountered, and a straightforward description of which parts are pressing as opposed to which items can safely hold.

We also operate a veteran savings, and a customer referral program: when a neighbor completes a whole-house exterior, we send $250 your way. Program terms apply.

Call 412-858-8858 to get a straight answer on your exterior at your property in Allegheny County Pennsylvania — before you sign anything.
